Consecutive weeks of 1000+ Dengue cases each
As if Covid-19 wasn’t enough to worry about, 2020 has also brought dengue cases in Singapore to an all-time high. As of 8 Aug 2020, NEA reported a troubling total of 23,000+ dengue cases, more than the 15,998 dengue cases recorded for the whole of 2019!
It seems that the pandemic may have overshadowed the countless reminders of and precautionary efforts by NEA officers. There are still many cases of breeding sources in homes. One particularly terrifying find during an NEA inspection was a flower pot filled with hundred of wriggling larvae!

NEA PENALTIES
From today (15 July 2020) onwards, homes with repeated mosquito breeding offences are going to face heavier penalties.
According to NEA:
Currently, households are issued a composition sum of $200 for mosquito breeding detected at their residential premises, regardless of the number of breeding habitats detected. Offenders are sent to Court for the fourth offence.
From 15 July 2020, the composition sum will be increased for premises detected with multiple mosquito breeding habitats within the same inspection, or where mosquito breeding has been detected even after a legal notice has been served within a dengue cluster area. Repeat offenders will also be given heftier penalties or sent to Court.
